Jewel Kilcher hit the music scene in full force with her debut album, "Pieces of You" in 1995. My first encounter with Jewel was sometime in 1998, when Jewel's popularity was at it's peak. At this time she was somewhat of a reluctant signer but could be coerced into signing if you requested her to personalize the item. Jewel was adamant about personalizing all items put in front of her anyways so this was just a way to get her to sign. Her autograph was pretty much every letter of her first name only.
My next encounter with Jewel was during a tour a couple of years later in Cincinnati, Ohio. After the show her bus pulled into the Westin and one of her staff members got off the bus. He told us that Jewel would sign one item per person and that he would take them on the bus and Jewel would sign our items. He collected one item from each of us (probably 6 or 7 of us total) and disappeared onto the bus. After a few minutes, he appeared from the bus and handed our items back to us. I got a vinyl LP cover autographed and a friend of mine got a CD booklet autographed for me. They were genuine and beautifully signed in blue sharpie. By this time Jewel's autograph had devolved into essentially a capital "J", "e", a line for the rest of the letters and a small "l". The good thing was that apparently it was no longer essential that everything needed to be personalized.
Jewel now lives in Los Angeles and is often out on the town. She was scheduled to participate in season 8 of the popular "Dancing with the Stars" series. However, due to injury she was forced to withdraw before the show started. My sister met Jewel during the summer of 2009 and Jewel was happy to sign two items per person. Jewel no longer seems to care about personalizing every item and her signature is once again pretty much every letter of her first name. Not to say that they don't exist, but I have never seen an autograph with Jewel Kilcher's entire name. Like many celebrities, Jewel is known by her one name moniker.
