Night of the Academy Awards
Welcome to the Dark side of collecting. For all the time that is spent collecting autographs and all the successes that come with it, sometimes no matter how much time you put into it you still end up with nothing for all your efforts. This was the case the night of the Academy Awards. Madonna held a private party at a residence north of Beverly Hills, Elton John hosted his annual bash at the Pacific Design Center and E! held their bash at the W hotel in Hollywood. P-Diddy partied at Guys and Dolls and there was the illustrious Vanity Fair party at Sunset Towers. Security was super tight, with little or no access at most events. Being a good collector, I did my due diligence making the rounds and checking out the various parties and their set-ups. Due to traffic, this took a couple of hours. We briefly stopped off at the Beverly Wilshire where Quinton Aaron, star of "The Blindside" was very friendly, signing for us and posing for photographs. Afterwards, I scouted out the Chateau Marmont but my efforts were fruitless there as well. On one of the biggest and busiest nights of the year in Hollywood, while one would expect it to be a great for autograph collecting, with increased security and traffic it is not spectacular at all. Many collectors choose to stay at home rather than going out hunting autographs on the evening of the Academy Awards and next year, I think I will join them.
